The school choice application window for San Diego Unified, the county's largest school district, is open now through Nov. 13.
This is when parents can submit applications to get their child enrolled in a public school other than their neighborhood school. But submitting an application doesn’t guarantee that a child will be able to switch schools.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that 20% fewer students will be able to switch schools this year.
Voice of San Diego has been publishing a guide for the last few years to help parents choose the right school for their child.

Education reporter Will Huntsberry, one of the guide's writers, joined Midday Edition on Thursday to discuss the ABCs of the school choice application process.
