American soldiers fighting in Afghanistan will soon be much harder for the enemy to spot. And that's a good thing. The Army, which historically has been resistant to change, is to its credit issuing new camouflage designed specifically to blend in with the country's topography. The new camouflage pattern is called "MultiCam" and features seven shades including green, tan and brown.
USA Today reports that MultiCam will replace camouflage that's been in use for six years. Troops being deployed from this point forward will be issued MultiCam combat uniforms. Those already deployed will turn in their uniforms beginning in December and switch to MultiCam.
The effort will cost more than $200 million, but it's worth every penny if it saves soldiers' lives, and it it likely will.
