Craig Newmark

Craig Newmark

Who Knew? Craig Newmark, founder of the ubiquitous Craigslist worldwide websites, who often splashes colorful peace symbols and other hippieish graphics on his homepages, is a passionate supporter of America's veterans. Newmark, who can be reached at his Twitter feed here, recently joined the board of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), one of the largest and busiest veterans organizations in the nation.

Newmark, who has 25 years experience as a web-oriented software engineer, worked for IBM for 18 years, as well as for Charles Schwab & Co. He holds a masters degree in computer science. He clearly has the power, the money and of course the massive web presence to do positive things for veterans.

Blogging for the San Francisco Chronicle recently, he wrote:

A big decision awaits some voters this July as the race for San Diego County’s Supervisor District 1 seat heats up. Are you ready to vote? Check out the KPBS Voter Hub to learn about the candidates, the key issues the board is facing and how you can make your voice heard.
