Your Favorite War Movies: The Results of Our Poll

Thank you Homepost readers!

You posted on this blog... you posted on Facebook... you Tweeted... you emailed... you even called! Before the holidays I asked you to please tell me your favorite war movie(s) of all time, and you responded enthusiastically, and again I thank every one of you who participated. Below are the results. The winner - the film that got the most votes - was "Saving Private Ryan," with "Platoon" a close second. There were plenty of surprises, a few forgotten gems, and some infamous classics. I'm not sure I should admit this, but I've seen every one of these films and there isn't a single one I didn't enjoy, for obviously different reasons. You covered the spectrum, from full-on combat films to patriotic salutes to anti-war satires to love stories.

These are the films that received more than one vote:

Later this week, as promised, I will list my own Top Ten favorite war films of all time. Stay tuned.

A big decision awaits some voters this July as the race for San Diego County’s Supervisor District 1 seat heats up. Are you ready to vote? Check out the KPBS Voter Hub to learn about the candidates, the key issues the board is facing and how you can make your voice heard.
