Disgraced Former San Diego Defense Contractor's New Trial Rejected

While at Newsweek, I covered the case of Brent Wilkes, the Poway defense contractor who in 2007 was convicted of money laundering, wire fraud, conspiracy, and bribery for his dealings with former San Diego Congressman Randy 'Duke' Cunningham, the onetime Vietnam Top Gun pilot who is now serving time in prison for what was dubbed the largest corruption case in Congressional history. Wilkes was sentenced to 12 years, but remains free as he appeals his conviction. During that appeal he's been participating in, and winning, high-stakes poker tournaments.

Don Bauder notes on his blog that the U.S. Attorney's office today answered Wilkes's motion for a new trial with a rather scathing and even sarcastic rejection.
