As Don Bauder pointed out on his blog, the New York Times recently ran a front-page story that sharply criticized San Diego-based Bridgepoint Education and other for-profit online educational institutions for their hard-sell tactics toward veterans.
The Times reported that since Congress increased tuition payments to veterans in 2008 (called the Post-9/11 GI Bill), more than 36 percent of the payments went to for profit-colleges, which critics say do not always provide adequate preparation in this tough employment market. The Times story interviewed a former recruiter for Bridgepoint's Ashford University, who said:
