CNN hasa fascinating post today on its Afghanistan Crossroads blog that made me think of the movie "Saving Private Ryan" and the true story that inspired it, "The Fighting Sullivans". It seems the 1st Battalion, 23rd Regiment out of Camp Pendleton--dubbed the "Lone Star Battalion"-- has five (yes FIVE) sets of brothers. They are: Lance Cpls. Guillermo Hernandez andRaul Hernandez; Lance Cpls. Jonathon Faseler and Matthew Faseler; Gunnery Sgt. Hector Vega Cigarroa and Sgt. Francisco Vega; Lance Cpls. Cody Henrichsen and Bobby Henrichsen; and Cpl. Daniel Beans and Lance Cpl. Joshua Beans. All the brothers are from Texas, except for the Beans brothers, who are from Florida.
The Battalion is gearing up for a 7-month deployment to Afghanistan. You're probably thinking what I was thinking...what about their families?
If you were serving, would you find it easier knowing your sibling was with you?
