The Red Cross created a website to connect worried family members with their loved ones after a disaster. The Department of Defense is urging servicemembers based in Japan to use this website, called Safe and Well, to let their friends and family know they are OK:
Officials say the website is a great resource for family having trouble getting in touch with troops on bases in Japan, or vice versa.
As Home Post has previously reported (courtesy of the Christian Science Monitor), the United States has roughly 38,000 troops stationed on bases in Japan, along with 43,000 family members. In addition, there are about 3,000 Department of Defense civilians in Japan.
