As we approach the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Reuters reports U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will announce the mastermind of the terrorist attacks will face a military trial at Guantanamo Bay. According to Reuters, a military commission will prosecute Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who faces the death penalty if he is convicted of planning the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.
The Washington Post explains the deeper meaning behind Holder's decision:
Holder's decision also indicates an end to the controversy over whether to try Mohammed in New York City, where the most devastating attacks occurred on September 11.
The military tribunal at Gitmo will also prosecute Mohammed's (alleged) co-conspirators: Mustafa Ahmed al Hawsawi, Walid bin Attash, Ramzi Binalshibh, and Ali Abdul Aziz Ali.
