Is Bigger Better When it Comes to Army Helmets?

If servicemembers wore bigger helmets with more padding their risk of brain injury could drop dramatically, according to new study from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As reported on by USA Today, the study finds:

So, now the Army will be outfitting all its soldiers with bigger, more cushioned helmets, right? Well, not so fast. Brig. Gen. Peter Fuller is the outgoing commander of the Army office that equips soldiers. He told USA Today:

According to USA Today, roughly 300 servicemembers in Afghanistan were diagnosed with concussions or other mild brain injuries EACH MONTH.

The Department of Defense Joint IED Defeat Organization funded the study.
