A plane carrying first lady Michelle Obama almost collided with a military cargo jet on the runway at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, and had to abort landing, according to the Washington Post. The Post reports the near-collision was the fault of one air traffic controller, who allowed the Boeing 737 carrying Mrs. Obama to come too close to a 200-ton military cargo jet known as a C-17. Other air traffic controllers at Andrews had to act quickly to prevent a tragedy:
Reuters reports that Mrs. Obama's plane eventually landed safely at Joint Base Andrews. Mrs. Obama has been traveling in support of a new initiative for military families called Joining Forces. As previously reported by Home Post, Joining Forces is a joining of forces in the business and non-profit worlds to improve education, health care, and job opportunities for servicemembers and their families.
