The Navy announced today the USS Carl Vinson is coming home to Naval Base Coornado next Wednesday, June 15, after an almost seven month deployment. The aircraft carrier left the port of Pearl Harbor today - its final stop before returning to San Diego, according to the Vinson's Facebook page.
The Vinson most famously took part in Osama bin Laden's burial-at-sea after the al Qaeda terrorist was killed during a raid on his Pakistan compound by Navy SEALS, as reported by Home Post last month:
According to a Navy press release, the USS Carl Vinson has traveled 60,206 nautical miles since its departure from San Diego on November 30, 2010. Capt. Bruce H. Lindsey, Vinson's commanding officer, said about the aircraft carrier's voyage:
