Thousands of folks have read Joe Bergman's tribute to his son Matthew on Home Post, and have been deeply touched by his words. So often when we learn of a servicemember's passing in the line of duty, we don't get to really know what that person was like when he was alive. But Matt "Berg" Bergman's family and friends have been very generous with me in sharing their memories of the young man they loved and to whom they were devoted.
A close friend, Colin Blouin, wrote to me about of one of the last times he saw Berg. A group of their friends had gotten together to play poker, and Berg ended up winning about $90:
