Discharged Airman Fights to Rejoin Military

Former Air Force major Mike Almy was kicked out of the service after 13 years when a fellow Airman exposed Almy's homosexuality (after reading his private emails). Now that don't ask, don't tell has been repealed, Almy is hoping to serve his country once again.

In a letter to President Obama, Almy explained why serving in the military is so important to him:

But the Associated Press explains that Almy's battle to rejoin the military will be a tough one, in part because of the country's financial struggles. According to the AP:

Almy and two other officers discharged through DADT have filed suit against the Justice Department for the right to be reinstated as military officers. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments on the case in Pasadena on September 1.
