A federal affidavit is shedding some light on the motive of Pentagon bombing suspect Rezwan Ferdaus. The 26-year-old Ferdaus is a United States citizen who got his Physics degree at Northeastern University in Boston. Yet he still felt it necessary to attack his adopted country in order to deal a blow to "enemies of Allah," according to CBS News.
Federal officials say Ferdaus's physics degree helped him conjure up a plan to bomb the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using model airplanes with cell phones as detonators.
CBS News reports undercover FBI agents recorded conversations with Ferdaus, who thought the agents were al-Qaeda operatives. The federal affidavit says Ferdaus told agents he started planning Jihad against the United States in 2010, saying:
"Allah has given us the privilege... He punishes them by our hand. We're the ones."
Interesting side note: MyFoxBoston.com reports Ferdaus was the drummer for a band called Goosepimp Orchestra, although the band's website doesn't mention him.
