A Third of Vets Say Iraq and Afghan Wars a Waste

One in three veterans of the post-9/11 military say the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were not worth the cost of fighting, according to a new poll.

The survey from the nonpartisan Pew Research Center breaks down those numbers even further into support for the wars individually, with 44 percent of post-9/11 era veterans saying the Iraq War was worth the cost. Half of those vets polled say the war in Afghanistan was worth fighting.

The poll also questioned post-9/11 veterans about what the role of our military should be, with 59 percent saying nation-building is an appropriate mission for our armed forces:
