Eight sailors from the crew of the San Diego-based USS Bonhomme Richard have been kicked out of the Navy because of a January 17 hazing incident aboard the amphibious assault ship.
According to the Los Angeles Times:
The eight were allegedly involved in assaulting and choking a sailor as part of an initiation rite... [t]he Navy has a "zero-tolerance" policy toward such initiations and hazing.
One of the eight sailors involved in the incident, 20-year-old Charlie Davis, told San Diego television station 10News the whole event got blown out of proportion, that it was "boys being boys" involved in a wrestling match. That "match" was captured on cell phone video. You can watch the Davis interview by clicking here.
According to Fox News, Davis and the other discharged sailors can appeal the Navy's decision to fire them. So far, none has appealed.
