A young boy who spent months on the Internet earning a free trip to Disney World gave that trip away to a girl who's father was killed in Afghanistan.
Nine-year-old Brendan Haas had an idea: he wanted to trade one of his toy soldiers for something nicer, then keep trading up until he had won a trip to Disney World. He was able to put his plan in action through a Facebook page called "A Soldier for a Soldier."
Apparently, Brendan had planned all along to give his trip away to the child of a fallen service member. And he did exactly that when, by raffle, he picked 2-year-old Liberty Hope Steele as the winner of the Disney World trip, according to NBC News. Liberty lost her dad, 25-year-old U.S. Army Lt. Timothy Steele, when he was killed in Afghanistan last August.
But the story doesn't end there. This morning on Good Morning America, the Disney Company (which also owns ABC, the network on which GMA airs) gave Brendan a Disney vacation of his own. And wouldn't you know it? He promptly gave that one away, too.
Brendan said:
“We can’t accept a trip to Disney but we have many more people who would like to have an all-expenses paid [trip] …so we can do another raffle."
And so another military child will get an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World - all because of the selflessness of a nine-year-old boy.
