The seemingly unstoppable Waldo Canyon fire has forced Air Force Academy officials to relocate roughly 200 summer academics cadets to the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs campus. The dean of faculty at the Academy, Brig. Gen. Dana Born, says:
"UCCS has been a terrific partner helping our faculty and cadets continue our academic programs while we focus on the Class of 2016 and in-processing."
A total of 550 cadets have been relocated because of the fire.
According to the Academy website, the cadet area of the Academy is not in "imminent danger." An Academy update on the Waldo Canyon fire from this morning states that there are no fires burning on Academy land at the present time:
The 'smoke' visible on the Academy is from smoke coming down Blodget Peak and dust rising from bulldozer activity on the Academy grounds.
The fire has also prompted the Navy to issue an order "to account for Navy personnel and their families affected by the Colorado wildfires." To read the order, click here.
