Navy Relieves Commander Of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center

The Navy announced today it has relieved Capt. Michael Wiegand, the commanding officer of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, for "loss of confidence in his ability to command," according to a news release.

The announcement follows an investigation into what the Navy is calling "contracting improprieties" at SWRMC, which is headquartered in San Diego. While the Navy continues to investigate the matter, Wiegand has been reassigned to administrative duty.

SWRMC provides maintenance and technical support to U.S. Pacific Fleet's ships and submarines.
