USS Carl Vinson Wraps Up Six Months Of Maintenance (Video)

USS Vinson Completes PIA

The crew of the San Diego-based USS Carl Vinson officially completed the ship's scheduled six-month planned incremental availability (PIA) on February 3rd, according to the Vinson's communications department.

The Vinson has been off-line at Naval Air Station North Island since August for maintenance. Crew members performed many of the repairs.

Capt. Kent Whalen, Carl Vinson's commanding officer, said of the milestone:

"For more than 400,000 man-hours, 2,800 Sailors worked alongside 900 shipyard workers and contractors to make this great warship once again ready for sea and for the nation's tasking. I can't tell you how proud I am of everyone who played a role during this maintenance period to return Carl Vinson to an operational status on time."
