Four members of the United States military were killed Sunday in southern Afghanistan by a homemade bomb.
Stars and Stripes reports International Security Assistance Force members and Afghan forces were on foot patrol conducting a "combined operation" in Zhari District when the attack took place.
ISAF confirmed that four coalition members were killed in an improvised explosive attack, but would not release the nationalities of the fallen troops.
An unnamed military source, however, confirmed to The Associated Press that all four soldiers killed were American.
The Los Angeles Times reports the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the murders. Four insurgents also died in the attack, according to Stars and Stripes.
