Military and civilian firefighters, sheriff's deputies and helicopter crews will practice responding to wildfires Thursday at Camp Pendleton.
A wildland firefighting exercise is scheduled to get underway on the North County military installation at 1 p.m. and extend until about 2:30 p.m.
Participating agencies include aviation and ground units from Camp Pendleton, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Navy Region Southwest and Third Fleet, Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
"This exercise will provide ready, trained and certified military and civilian resources to combat wildland fires in the region and culminates with a cooperative effort to extinguish a simulated wildland fire," a Camp Pendleton statement said.
Base officials said fire crews would work together to establish a simulated fire line and conduct water bucket operations.
