The future USS America is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage Thursday, leaving Mississippi for its new home port of San Diego. Marine Corps Lance Cpl Eryk “Bo” Vencill, 21, was killed July 5 in a car crash in Perry Township, Ohio. The Camp Pendleton-based Marine was on leave visiting family when the accident took place.

Actor, musician, and humanitarian Gary Sinise will host a special screening Tuesday evening of the documentary "Travis: A Soldier's Story" at the Village Theater in Coronado. The film follows the journey of quadruple amputee Travis Mills as he recovers from devastating injuries he suffered in Afghanistan.
