Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is in the United States for a week-long state visit to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent British colony in America.
In Richmond, Va., the queen spoke this afternoon at the state capitol about the long friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
As NPR's Adam Hochberg tells Robert Siegel, the queen's schedule also included some time set aside to meet with some of the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting.
