Former North Carolina District Attorney Mike Nifong on Friday said he "maybe got carried away a little bit" in his statements during the investigation into Duke lacrosse players accused of rape.
And he said he expects to be punished. Then, as he was leaving the stand during his North Carolina State Bar disciplinary hearing, he announced his resignation.
Nifong is accused of violating rules of professional conduct in his handling of the high-profile case that accused players of raping a stripper at an off-campus party.
