After a horrific chase, the cops finally brought him down with a PIT maneuver. He fled the car and laid face down, thereby avoiding getting blown to bits. Yeah, that stolen vehicle certainly warranted endangering unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians for the length of the chase.
Most of the car chases start in Los Angeles County but many of them end in San Diego. Just try to imagine how many lives could be destroyed along the way. The last night of 2007, San Diego mourned the loss of Stryker, the police dog.
That chase, which began in Oceanside, ended with the alleged & ldquo;drunk driver & rdquo; jumping over the Coronado Bridge railing, unfortunately taking the police dog with him. Obviously, he was not in his right mind at the time. The & ldquo;fight or flight' instinct had clearly overtaken his ability to reason.
Proposals to rein in this dangerous and often lethal practice have been repeatedly defeated. Proposed legislation such as Krysties Law , and subsequent efforts have not succeeded.
I hate a thief as much as the next guy, but this may be a case where we need to assert our & "collective wisdom" as mothers, as fathers, as reasonable citizens, and demand legislation which would bring an end to this bloody chapter.
