California already ranks near the bottom (46 th ) in the nation in education. & The proposed cuts would move California into 50 th place in the nation. Surely cuts could come from other places in the budget. Suspending Prop. 98 means stealing from our children's education to pay for poor fiscal planning on the state level. Why should our children be punished to fund poor government management?
If you're worried about our children's education then here are some actions you can take:
1. Let the Governator know you think he should change his proposed cuts when he presents the May revision to his original budget. Tell him our kids deserve better. & Write him at:
State Capitol
Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
Phone: 916-445-2841
Fax: 916-558-3160
2. Write to your other elected officials. It only takes 14 of 40 senators to vote NO on the suspension of Prop. 98. Easy links to senators, and your house representatives can be found at www.cta.org .
3. Learn more about this issue and the effects of the state budget. The link my school district provides is www.carlsbadusd.k12.ca.us/ . A good primer on Prop. 98 can be found here . &
4. Spread the word and let others know about this important issue.
