The 2010 Census operation is shifting into high gear in San Diego County. Four regional offices are open around San Diego County -- downtown, Chula Vista, El Cajon and Escondido.
Spokesman Robert Borboa says residents will start to see letters in their mail box next month.
“We are sending out a questionnaire this census that has only ten questions,” he says. “It will take you ten minutes to fill out, and it will affect the next ten years of your community’s federal money allocations.”
Borboa says the questionnaire has been simplified to encourage more people to fill them in and return them. He says the Census Bureau and its workers are bound to keep the information in the questionnaire confidential for 72 years.
Census workers will come door to door only where people have not responded to the questionnaire.
The federal government uses census information to divvy up billions in spending for things like education, social services and transportation.
