County To Approve Pay Raises

County To Approve Pay Raises
San Diego County Supervisors will vote tomorrow on a 2 percent pay raise for 1,800 County managers and the staff of elected officials.

San Diego County Supervisors will vote tomorrow on a 2 percent pay raise for 1,800 county managers and the staff of elected officials.

Martin Rigby, a human resources manager, says this covers employees not represented by labor negotiations.

"It’s based on what has already been negotiated in the agreements in 2008, 2009 by the labor relations folks at the county," Rigby said. "This is to keep up with the increase that was given at that time."

The increase will cost the county $3 million, but Rigby says that money has already been included in the budget.

San Diego County’s 16,000 salaried employees did not get a pay raise last year, but the 2 percent increase negotiated by their unions will take effect in June of this year.

The County has not imposed any pay cuts on their employees to deal with the economic downturn.

San Diego City workers, from the Mayor on down, took an across the board 6 percent pay cut last year to balance their budget.
