  • This exhibition will explore art that has emerged from the surf-culture lifestyle and surfing’s influence on artists. Everyone who has experienced the feeling of riding a wave understands just how hard it is to describe that incredible sensation, referred to as “stoke”. It seems that only through creative self-expression can surfer-artists capture the essence of stoke and the inspiration that can be found between the surfer and the wave.Artists who surf may take this creative energy in many directions and may explore subjects outside of surfing and surf culture. This joint exhibition will feature a variety of media, from traditional art making methods to works in resin, murals, surfboards, graphic art, sculpture, or fabric, all with the goal to convey the creative power that all artists experience, on or off the wave.Visit: Exhibition Opening Day | Surf Art: Exploring Southern California's Coastal CultureOceanside Museum of Art on Instagram and Facebook
  • Tired of giving soap or socks to honor the father(s) in your life? Make a personal card to honor your father(s) and gift it! In this workshop, we use tarot cards to explore fatherhood’s energy. We will celebrate our relationship to fathers and fatherhood through writing and a collage project, with room to explore challenging connections and what we’ve learned from them, including looking at connections forged with chosen family as well as blood family. The simple tarot journaling process we will use will help you discover and uncover your connection to fathering energy and how it can best nurture you. And if you wish, create personal tarot card art you can keep for yourself (your Inner Father) or a card for your actual father or person who fathered you. Bring an open heart, paper and pencil, and some photos of the father you are honoring (photos of you or your father(s)), and any images you feel express the gifts and lessons of that relationship. Please feel free to bring your own tarot deck(s) though your instructor will provide a variety of tarot images. Remember you can point the arrow of this inquiry towards your own father, or towards yourself in the role you play with your children or those you parent. All perspectives and experiences welcome; no prior writing or tarot experience necessary. Comes with a PDF for continuing your exploration on your own.San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram
