  • Tecate Community Museum, Tecate, Baja Mexico (U.S. side meeting location - In front of Baja Duty Free - 404 Tecate Rd, Tecate, California 91980) Saturday, July 26, 2025 Kumeyaay Pine Needle Basketry Workshop: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Since the late 1800s, Native artisans of Baja California and southern California have created beautiful baskets woven from pine needles, sometimes incorporating strips of palm fiber, juncus rush or other natural fibers. The pine needles not only have the aroma of a mountain forest, the base of the pine needle cluster can also be used to create striking designs. Join us for a hands-on, one-day workshop, a rare opportunity to learn the whole process of traditional pine needle basket weaving directly from Kumeyaay master weavers, including preparing the plant fibers, creating designs and making your own basket medallion to take home. The $60 cost of the workshop includes pine needles and other materials, lunch and translation throughout the workshop. You may also provide a scholarship for an indigenous student to attend.   • Learn to Weave with Silk! Saturday, July 26, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Beginners welcome! Learn to weave with colorful recycled sari silk in this hands-on, weaving workshop! Weaver, Dyer Jeanine Ertl will guide students through a variety of weaving techniques on warped lap looms using a rainbow of silk ribbon and yarn fibers to ignite the imagination. You’ll learn and play with the basics of the process from start to finish, each creating a unique handwoven that can be hung or draped, according to your desires. Please feel free to bring any items you may want to incorporate into your weaving, like interesting fibers, foraged and gathered natural objects, shells with holes, beads, etc. Each Weaver will complete a one-of-a-kind silk textile that can be hung as a Wall Hanging or finished as a square and used in a variety of creative ways. In addition, if you find that you’re in love with the practice, you will have an option to purchase the loom you are working with, as well as additional fiber and tools to continue at home. Come explore mindfully making in a space of creativity & harmony with others. No experience necessary.   • The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association is excited to announce the 36th Annual Taste of Encinitas on Tuesday, August 26, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., along Coast Hwy 101 in downtown Encinitas. As always, our reusable cups will be sponsored by C3 Bank. With the purchase of a ticket, participants will be able to enjoy Tastes from a number of local restaurants, sample wine and beer at Sip Stops, and enjoy a variety of live music. Tickets go on sale on July 2, for $60. This year’s Taste of Encinitas is slated to be the biggest yet! We expect tickets to sell out fast! Enjoy samples of food from 20+ restaurants, plus samples of wine/beer at 20+ Sip Stops hosted by shops, offices and salons. As always, to help make the event easier on the environment, Encinitas 101 is supplying each participant with a reusable Encinitas 101 MainStreet takeaway cup, sponsored by C3 Bank. Participating restaurants are being encouraged to minimize waste and use eco-friendly plates and utensils. Additionally, for the seventh year, the event will not permit the use of Styrofoam.
