  • Rafael Payare and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra open the fifth summer season at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park with a delectable program fitting of the occasion. The evening opens with "Ginastera’s Four Dances" from Estancia, the final dance being the spirited “Malambo.” Wynton Marsalis – one of the greatest and most celebrated trumpet musicians of all time – created a trumpet concerto that will receive its San Diego debut, at the hands of trumpet extraordinaire Paul Merkelo.   • In solidarity with GreenFaith communities throughout the country, the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice will hold a pre-Inaugural candlelight vigil, "Bringing Light into the Darkness," on Wednesday, January 15 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Balboa Park (El Prado and Balboa Drive). Faith community activists and lovers of Earth will gather to shine a light of hope in the darkness of the harmful rhetoric and anticipated actions that threaten climate and social justice progress.
