Rafael Payare and the San Diego Symphony Orchestra open the fifth summer season at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park with a delectable program fitting of the occasion. The evening opens with "Ginastera’s Four Dances" from Estancia, the final dance being the spirited “Malambo.” Wynton Marsalis – one of the greatest and most celebrated trumpet musicians of all time – created a trumpet concerto that will receive its San Diego debut, at the hands of trumpet extraordinaire Paul Merkelo. The San Diego County Fair presents the 2025 lineup for its acclaimed Paddock Concert Series.The 20-night Paddock Concert Series, presented by Chevrolet, includes a collection of Grammy-winning artists, rising stars, and tributes to legendary acts. American composer Christopher Cerrone's "All Wounds Bleed" is a contemporary retelling of the legend of Echo and Narcissus, the abandoned goddess Hera, and the price of unrequited love. The thirty minute work for three voices and small ensemble features singers Emily Barger, Julia Anne Cordani, and Miguel Zazueta.Peter Maxwell Davies' "The Medium" is a portrait of a character whose life is shrouded in mystery. In solidarity with GreenFaith communities throughout the country, the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice will hold a pre-Inaugural candlelight vigil, "Bringing Light into the Darkness," on Wednesday, January 15 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Balboa Park (El Prado and Balboa Drive). Faith community activists and lovers of Earth will gather to shine a light of hope in the darkness of the harmful rhetoric and anticipated actions that threaten climate and social justice progress.
