  • Contra is American folk dance, a living tradition in which new dances are written all the time using a standard repertoire of moves. It is similar to square dancing, but is danced in two long lines (like English country dance), so that each pair dances with each other pair in one dance. No experience is needed, because there will be a lesson at 7 p.m., and every dance is taught and then "called" throughout by the caller. We practice gender-neutral calling and dance roles. If you can walk, you can dance! Pay what you can ($5 - $20) and wear what you like, with comfortable shoes. Bring a friend or come by yourself -- you'll have a new partner for each dance.
