Learn to Weave with Silk! Saturday, July 26, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Beginners welcome! Learn to weave with colorful recycled sari silk in this hands-on, weaving workshop! Weaver, Dyer Jeanine Ertl will guide students through a variety of weaving techniques on warped lap looms using a rainbow of silk ribbon and yarn fibers to ignite the imagination. You’ll learn and play with the basics of the process from start to finish, each creating a unique handwoven that can be hung or draped, according to your desires. Please feel free to bring any items you may want to incorporate into your weaving, like interesting fibers, foraged and gathered natural objects, shells with holes, beads, etc. Each Weaver will complete a one-of-a-kind silk textile that can be hung as a Wall Hanging or finished as a square and used in a variety of creative ways. In addition, if you find that you’re in love with the practice, you will have an option to purchase the loom you are working with, as well as additional fiber and tools to continue at home. Come explore mindfully making in a space of creativity & harmony with others. No experience necessary. The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association is excited to announce the 36th Annual Taste of Encinitas on Tuesday, August 26, from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., along Coast Hwy 101 in downtown Encinitas. As always, our reusable cups will be sponsored by C3 Bank. With the purchase of a ticket, participants will be able to enjoy Tastes from a number of local restaurants, sample wine and beer at Sip Stops, and enjoy a variety of live music. Tickets go on sale on July 2, for $60. This year’s Taste of Encinitas is slated to be the biggest yet! We expect tickets to sell out fast! Enjoy samples of food from 20+ restaurants, plus samples of wine/beer at 20+ Sip Stops hosted by shops, offices and salons. As always, to help make the event easier on the environment, Encinitas 101 is supplying each participant with a reusable Encinitas 101 MainStreet takeaway cup, sponsored by C3 Bank. Participating restaurants are being encouraged to minimize waste and use eco-friendly plates and utensils. Additionally, for the seventh year, the event will not permit the use of Styrofoam. In addition to the Sip Stops, the Taste will feature locations serving non-alcoholic beverages, such as non-alcoholic beer, mocktails, kombucha and coffee. Woo Studios (formerly the Woodbury School of Architecture), a project of Studio Culture, is proud to host "An Artist’s Duty," a bold and timely group exhibition amplifying voices of historically excluded artists from the region, produced by the xikanx collective. Opening Saturday, August 2 from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. and running through September 26, 2025, this exhibit is inspired by Nina Simone’s declaration that “an artist’s duty is to reflect the times” in which we live. The exhibition features around 100 artists and performers whose work confronts the current political climate–ICE raids and abductions, ecological collapse, dismantling of the Education Department, attacks on freedom of expression, regression of civil rights, economic instability, and rise of U.S. isolationism and authoritarianism. Through visual art, installation, performance, and storytelling, "An Artist’s Duty" is coming together through the xikanx collective– led and curated by Monica Hernandez and Alejandra Ruiz. Monica is an interdisciplinary artivist, curator, and cultural strategist rooted in San Diego’s borderlands. She is co-founder of The Front Arte y Cultura and brings decades of experience working at the intersection of art, advocacy, and community empowerment, with deep ties to grassroots networks. Alejandra Ruiz is an emerging multimedia artist who has curated exhibitions on both sides of the border and is currently an Arts & Culture Coordinator for The Front Arte y Cultura. "An Artist’s Duty" features artists from the Emo Brown Art Dept, the Xoque Art in Motion collective, Art Through the Glass (ATTG), Cr34tive Gatherings, the Centro Cultural de la Raza, Proyecto Coyote, and SubCultura Curation, along with an impressive list of individual artists, such as Marcos Erre Ramirez, Einar & James de la Torre, and Pedro Rios, among others. The opening reception will have performances by Nicole McFly and Ramel Wallace, as well as spoken word and a perfoma protest developed by Chile’s La Tesis in collaboration with the Centro Cultural de la Raza. ATTG will also be hosting a free artmaking activity. This exhibition takes on even greater urgency given the current anti-immigrant climate in San Diego and across the nation. "An Artist’s Duty" is not just a show—it is intentionally creating a safe space for truth-telling, resistance, collective healing, and for community-building. It is bringing together the voices of San Diego’s most marginalized and impacted communities, and it is doing so with intention, presence, hope, and art to shape and shift our current atmosphere. The Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) has assembled some of the best teachers in Southern California to lead fun and inspiring art camps for students. Join us for two weeks of Summer fun, making friends, and making art! CoSA Summer Arts Camps are July 7-18, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. weekdays. Camps meet on the campus of Coronado High School and will culminate in an open exhibition/performance of creative works for families to enjoy in the last hour of the last day. The fee to participate is $350. The CoSA Youth Summer Arts Camp is geared for students ages 8-12, or students entering 3rd-6th grades for the 2025-26 school year.
