For each piece, the listener is drawn closer to the composition, using the music as the leaping-off point for audience members to pen a short message to someone special in their own life. Writing on custom-made postcards featuring the alluring work of visual artists, concertgoers become creators right alongside the Quartet…and reconnect with loved ones in unexpected ways.   • Wednesdays, April 12 - 26 at 8 p.m. on KPBS 2 / Stream now with the PBS App. Inspired in part by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s “Americans and the Holocaust” exhibition and supported by its historical resources, The U.S. and the Holocaust examines the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany in the context of global antisemitism and racism, the eugenics movement in the United States and race laws in the American south.
  • The San Diego Chinese Historical Museum is a platform to celebrate multiculturalism, enrich the community, and showcase San Diego as an international and cultural tourist destination. The museum’s exhibits share the heritage of San Diego’s Chinese community and the essence of Chinese arts and culture through historic photographs, miniature models, ancient artifacts and explanatory text.   • POSTPONED: 11-week Docent Training Program Begins Tuesday, Feb. 15 - April 26, 2022 The Maritime Museum of San Diego, with an international reputation for excellence in restoring, maintaining, and operating historic landmark vessels opens their next docent volunteer training program to newcomers! Docent volunteers will learn about worldwide maritime history with a special focus on the 16th through 21st centuries represented by the vessels and artifacts in the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s collection. Docents will engage with museum visitors, fielding their questions and sharing knowledge to enrich the guest experience. Training is carried out through a series of lectures, suggested readings and walking tours. Aspiring docents are invited to attend the once-a-year 2022 training series of lectures and ship tours. Training sessions are Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The training schedule is as follows: 9 a.m. – Informal coffee/social time 9:40 a.m. – Opening announcements and docent business 9:55 a.m. – Break for parking meter payments 10:05 a.m. – First presentation 11 a.m. – Break 11:05 a.m. – Second presentation Noon – Meeting ends Classes are immediately followed with a 45-minute walking tour of one of the ships, and cover a comprehensive variety of topics.   • The two-time Olympian artistic swimmer from N.Y. will compete for the first time this week since passing out at the Budapest 2022 FINA World Championships last June.
  • "Water on Metal" is an exhibition of 26 watercolors by Vista artist Krista Timberlake: a collection of watercolor paintings melding animals and figures with machinery and mechanical parts. These works explore the juxtaposition of the unexpected: a mechanized world where cold metal becomes organic & fluid & takes unexpected forms by creating weird & wonderful machines rendered in untamed colors and watercolors. At City Hall, 505 S. Vulcan Avenue, Encinitas Calif. Show runs January 6 through February 27 and can be viewed during City Hall hours.
