Upcoming Presentation: Remember Us – Rare Original Items from World War II and the Holocaust On March 25 at 6 p.m., we will present "Remember Us The Holocaust"—a unique opportunity to view rare, original items from World War II and the Holocaust that are not part of the current exhibit. This presentation will feature a wide range of memorabilia, including items from Germany, the Holocaust, and U.S. World War II history. This event is a special time for the public to bring in and share their own documents and items related to these significant periods in history. We invite people to show us their memorabilia and stories, providing an important chance for others to learn and connect with this history. Additionally, if anyone is interested in donating documents or WWII-related memorabilia, we would be honored to accept these valuable pieces for our collection. This is also an exciting opportunity to see how we are displaying the exhibit and our plans to eventually expand it into a full museum. We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating these important pieces of history together. In this “mysterious” program, students use chemistry, physics and observation skills to piece together evidence and crack the case. They learn how to classify mysterious powders, calculate the pH of soils, and perform chromatography to separate pigments. Presented by The Fleet Science Center. For youth ages 9-12. In this class, children will explore their favorite superhero themes while engaging in fun activities, like drawing, painting, and crafting their very own superhero costumes. By learning dance routines inspired by superhero powers, they will build coordination, strength, and confidence along the way. With a focus on creativity, self-expression, and teamwork, Superheroes: Art & Dance is a fantastic way for young kids to exercise their imagination and dance skills in the Athenaeum’s La Jolla Studio. The San Diego River Artists’ Alliance (SDRAA) will exhibit work celebrating the many stories of the San Diego River and its ecosystem in a show titled “One River, Many Stories” at Grossmont College Hyde Art Gallery March 24 - April 24, 2025. The opening reception is on Tuesday, March 25 at 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Meet the artists again on April 10 from 2-4 p.m. A portion of the sales will be donated to the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF). The San Diego River Artists’ Alliance (SDRAA) is a collective of eighteen visual and 3D artists dedicated to spending time along the San Diego River from its source in mountains near Julian to the ocean. Time and experience along the river create the stories the artists retell in their artwork, celebrating its history, beauty and promise. SDRAA encourages the public to connect with the variety of experiences available along the river. Twelve artists will display work at the Grossmont College Hyde Art Gallery. The artists include Joan Boyer, Sue Britt, Cathy Coverley, Gloria Chadwick, Vicky DeLong, Kenda Francis, Jodie Hulden, Natasha Papousek, Susan Osborn, Janet Wytrych, Kathryn Gail Ackley, and Louis Russell. The work includes acrylic, photography, mixed media, glass, watercolor, oil, fiber arts and paper. The exhibit continues in the Patterson Window with seven cyanotype scrolls by Louise Russell. One scroll is the river’s voice and the others are storytellers voices. SDRAA is working alongside the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF) to support its long-term vision of creating a 52 mile park system the length of the river. SDRAA began in 2021 and has participated in several SDRPF events such as RiverFest and sponsored hikes.
