  • May the Fourth be with you at this one-day-only galactic celebration in the heart of San Marcos. North City is joining forces with local businesses and Craft Collective—a San Diego–based nonprofit dedicated to hands-on arts programming—to host a family-friendly event filled with pop culture, creativity, and community connection. Rumors suggest that emissaries from a well-organized galactic force will also be stopping by. This all-ages event blends hands-on fun with a bit of cosmic flair—perfect for families, fans, and curious adventurers alike.Expect surprise appearances from a galaxy far, far away, interactive inflatables and games, and themed food and drinks from North City restaurants. Kids can get creative at the Padawan Crafting Academy, where they’ll build lightsabers and fold origami droids under the guidance of Craft Collective (suggested donation). Adventurers can also take on the Jedi Training Grounds, featuring a bounce house and interactive space-themed games.The North City Cantina will feature galactic-inspired menu items, and guests can pick up a Galactic Passport to collect stamps from participating businesses and enter to win raffle prizes.Costumes are encouraged.   • Casa Guadalajara’s three-day Cinco de Mayo celebrations are livening up Old Town San Diego with live Mariachi music, a Mexican troubadour and enchanting ballet folklorico performances! Indulge in festive food and drink specials, including Don Julio tequila promotions and must-try items like street tacos, esquites (Mexican street corn), aguas frescas and Jarritos available at the outdoor taco stand. Add more color to the party with face painting, available daily from noon - 8 p.m. On Saturday, May 3 from noon - 3 p.m. Casa Guadalajara will participate in Old Town’s blind tasting salsa competition where participants can sample salsas and cast their vote to crown the Best Salsa of 2025!   • Open auditions will be held on April 27 from noon - 4 p.m. at the Junior Seau Community Center meeting room to cast actors and crew for a musical, theatrical performance at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, in June. The play is about a future Solarpunk fantasy world where love, friendship, and betrayal rock the peaceful utopian lifestyle. All ages are welcome, and theatre majors are encouraged to audition. This performance is part of a research project into the benefits of theatrical arts for community health and well-being. The study's results will be published and may provide empirical support for the importance of expenditures in community resources like public broadcasting.Bring a one-minute dialogue and one minute of a song.
