About Steph Johnson Steph Johnson is an award-winning, multi-dimensional recording artist and activist whose music deftly blends jazz, soul, funk and blues. Through her 20-year music career, Steph has recorded five studio albums. Her latest album "So In Love", is a collection of Johnson's favorite jazz standards and ballads. The 10-track record features pianist Josh Nelson (Natalie Cole), guitarist Anthony Wilson (Diana Krall), trumpeter Chris Lawrence, bassist Rob Thorsen and drummer Richard Sellers. “With her recent release of 'So In Love,' Steph continues her spiral upward towards bright, musical horizons. LA Jazz Scene Growing up, Steph was influenced by her grandmother’s favorite singers: Ike and Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder; and by the ’70s icons beloved by her mother, including James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. She discovered jazz through Miles Davis' classic album, ‘Kind of Blue’, which led her to the great female jazz vocalists: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn. “Johnson’s core strength is as a communicator with rhythmic depth and smoky, pliant power…her sweet yearning vocal really soars." — Robert Bush, Jazz critic Johnson performs regularly throughout Southern California and the Western United States. In 2016 she co-founded Voices of Our City Choir, with fellow musician Nina Deering. About Gypsy Sally Based out of sunny San Diego, Gypsy Sally is a three piece blues band that brings the old school feel to the new age from blues, to rock with the occasional Bossa and Latin twist. Front man Kyler Jakubowski has utilized his North Carolina roots and over the years has created a very unique blues sound not heard since the 50’s, Austin Wagner links the rhythm and melody with his smooth motown influenced James Jameson style, and Martin Quezada holds the beat on drums with his Caribbean swing, all of which when brought together creates what is now known as the one and only Gypsy Sally. To date, Gypsy Sally has recorded one album, "How Long," recorded live in the studio with Alan Sanderson. Gypsy Sally is named after a bar in the song "Tecumseh Valley" by Townes Van Zandt. Apart from Van Zandt, the band is influenced by classic blues artists like B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, and Peter Green. However, in addition to the blues, the band also draws influence from the vocals of Sam Cooke, and the rock guitar of Rory Gallagher. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and DOUBLE Hollywood Walk of Fame member, Robinson started his career as The Miracles front man and rose up through the music industry ranks to the Hall of Famer he is today. Multi-talented Smokey Robinson is an R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer and former Motown record executive who started his illustrious career dating back to the mid-50s. As the founder and frontman for the group The Miracles, becoming Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in 1965, Robinson was the chief songwriter and producer of their 22 albums and smash top ten hits such as, "You've Really Got a Hold on Me,” "Mickey's Monkey,” "I Second That Emotion,” "Baby Baby Don't Cry" and the group's only number-one hit during their Robinson years, "The Tears of a Clown.” In 1972 he focused his full attention to helping run Motown Records, retiring in 1988.
