The Storytelling Institute, a free seven-week course presented by the Storytellers of San Diego, is open to everyone who would like to hone their skills in this ancient art form. The Institute culminates in an optional storytelling slot for each participant at the San Diego Storytelling Festival here at the Coronado Public Library on March 15, 2025. Registration is requested for the January 21 introductory session. All other sessions are walk-in, no registration.   • Over The Line (OTL) World Championship Over-the-Line (OTL) is a unique beach softball game that originated in San Diego. In this game, two teams of three players each compete to hit the ball over a line about 55 feet in front of the batter. Unlike traditional softball, OTL is played without bases, and the team that scores the most runs wins. The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) hosts the annual World Championship Over-the-Line Tournament, which takes place on Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. The tournament is held over two weekends in July and attracts hundreds of thousands of players and spectators worldwide. It has been a San Diego tradition for 70 years and is known for its carefree, daytime, adults-only atmosphere. Teams dress up in costumes and bring tents, chairs, beer, and hilarious signs to the beach for the event. If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a summer day in San Diego, OTL is worth checking out! (Make Sure to Pick Up Your Bike Each Day) FAQs: Am I going to receive a seeded app or pre-app in the mail as in years past? No, All signups are being done online and in person at the Comber on 5/3. Get signed up and we will be moving pre-app and seeded to appropriate slots. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? The OTL tournament is held in a public place and therefore there are no age restrictions. Due to some content and sport activity we suggest that attendees be 18 years of age or older. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? We are no longer working a shuttle from the surrounding areas but we do support rideshare programs and have designated drop off/pick up locations.   • Twill-Dee-Dee! Saturday, February 15, from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Learn how to make this attractive round basket that incorporates several important basketry skills. You’ll start with a round slotted wooden base, insert spokes, and then begin weaving. Techniques included are: twining, twill weave, 3-Rod wale, continuous over-under, and a matchstick rim. Color choices for the twill section will be available. The basket measures about 6” x 6”. Add a flower embellishment if you wish. Makes a great plant holder, napkin holder, or just as a stand alone piece. Students: Please bring sturdy scissors & an old towel if you can! No experience necessary.
