  • September 28, 1-4 p.m. Come and explore the gorgeous natural blue of indigo in this hands-on natural dye workshop. You will learn a range of shibori dye resist processes in this creative workshop, including tegumo (spiderweb), ori nui (stitched), and itajime (clamped) shibori methods. You will also have the unique opportunity to work on a large and light organic cotton shawl (can be used as a bed cover). This textile will be approximately 40″ x 65″ and you’ll embellish it through shibori methods, followed by dyeing it in a natural indigo vat. You will gain a better understanding of the process and symbiotic relationship between indigo dye and this traditional textile surface design. This is a unique opportunity to learn the basic techniques to continue your journey into creating beautiful, unique textiles. Materials fee: $10 (cash) to be paid to instructor at the start of the workshop. This class is appropriate for ages 14+ years old. This class is designed for beginners as well as returning students.   • Everything that we give thanks for in this season of Thanksgiving flows directly from our earth and the ecosystems that sustain us. We of the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice wish to show our gratitude for our beloved planet with our 2nd annual outdoor interfaith gathering on Sunday Nov. 23 from 2 - 4 p.m. at Ski Beach Park in Mission Bay, 1600 Vacation Rd, SD 92109 (on the east side of Vacation Island). We will offer prayers from several faith traditions, listen to the music of Kol Tefillah, and fly kites after decorating them with earth friendly words and images. Bring your own kite (as earth friendly as possible with appropriate decoration) or fly one of the FREE kites we will provide. Some light refreshments will also be provided. Event is open to people of all faiths or of none. This is a great event for both individuals and families. Please join us and bring the whole family!!   • Learn to needle felt! Sunday, September 7, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Experience the magic of wool and learn how to paint using needle felting techniques! In this 3-hour workshop, we will create a marine landscape by layering and felting wool, as well as blending colors together. The addition of yarns will add texture and hues to your creation. Ocean and sunset make wonderful subjects for needle paintings! This class requires the use of sharp needles and you will be provided with fingers guards. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome.
