Explore Handbuilding with Clay Thursday, September 5, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Ages 12+ welcome! Join us for Clay Chimes & Good Times — the next edition of Clay Happy Hour! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your very own ceramic bell using simple yet satisfying hand-building techniques. Start by pinching a clay bowl to form the bell’s body, then roll and shape a slab to craft the clapper. Add textures, playful details, and your own creative touch to make it uniquely yours. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a new way to unwind, this open studio setting is a great chance to get your hands messy, meet new people, and let your creativity ring out. All materials are provided, and you’ll get to take home your handmade creations after they’re fired and ready for pick-up in 3-4 weeks. Grab a friend, enjoy some clay therapy, and discover the joy of crafting with clay! Just be sure to arrive before Clay Happy Hour ends at 7pm so you have enough time to complete your project! Upcycle Your Own Item! Learn to Carve & Block Print! Thursday, September 4, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Have you ever wanted to print your own designs on shirts and bags?! In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the art of relief printing! Students will learn to design and carve their own linoleum stamp and block print an image onto fabric. We invite you to upcycle fabric from your own wardrobe or home for this class, so grab a well-loved favorite item or something that could use a fun refresh and begin imagining some fun designs you might carve and print! Because this class focuses on upcycling, please bring your own fabric to block print on. This can be clothing, a tote bag or something else. You may bring more than one item and the instructor can help you choose which to print on in class. We recommend you avoid fabrics that are especially thin, like satins and silks. All other tools and materials needed for this class will be supplied for use. Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Thursdays, August 28, September 4, 11, 18, October 2, from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. In this 5-week wheel-throwing course, Ceramicist Briena Chavez guides students looking to build a solid foundation in ceramics while progressively developing their skills. This class is perfect for beginners and those who want to refine their techniques through a guided approach. Throughout the course, students will learn fundamental throwing techniques, trimming, altering forms, and glazing, gaining confidence on the wheel while creating functional pottery. Each week introduces a new skill that builds on the previous one, ensuring steady growth and mastery of key pottery concepts. Students gain hands-on experience with throwing and understanding of clay behavior from start to finish, as well as confidence in being on the wheel and a deeper knowledge of glaze choices and surface treatments. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome.
