  • Students will explore a variety of 2D art techniques using oil pastels and watercolor paints. Throughout the session, they’ll create multiple artworks while learning how to blend, layer, and experiment with each medium. They will also be introduced to pointillism, creating both an individual piece and a collaborative group artwork in this vibrant painting style. Parents are welcome to drop off their child for class or stay in our space during the class while students create. Feel free to choose what works best for you!   • Get ready for a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and local flavor at the inaugural OMBAC on Third: Pickleball & Cornhole Tournament, coming to Downtown Chula Vista on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC), this first-of-its-kind event will transform Third Avenue between E and F Streets into a lively sports arena with roughly ten pickleball courts and thirty cornhole courts, all to benefit the Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation. Players and spectators alike can enjoy a full day of fun, food, and local entertainment. Third Avenue will be lined with local vendors and food options, while a beer garden on Davidson Avenue will feature craft brews from some of Chula Vista’s favorite breweries. Whether you’re competing for the top prize or cheering from the sidelines, it’s a great way to support a meaningful cause while celebrating the best of the community. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Chula Vista Fire Department Heritage Foundation, which provides humanitarian aid, education, and career guidance for those pursuing fire suppression careers.   • Learn Plain Weave, Clasped Weft & Hemstitching! Saturday, December 6, from 2-5 p.m. Have you wanted to dive into the mindful, rhythmic, magic of weaving? In this rigid heddle loom workshop, students will learn to weave their own unique handwoven fabric in both plain weave (a classic, simple pattern) and clasped weft (where two wefts interconnect, creating unique patterns). Each student will learn the basics of how the loom works, a variety of simple weaving techniques, plain weave, clasped weft weaving, and finally, hemstitching for a finished piece. Students will weave a length of handwoven fabric of their choosing using the techniques in-class. Looms will be pre-warped in this class and students will weave together on Ashford Looms with 100% cotton fiber for a fiber-friendly afternoon. Beginners, as well as those with weaving experience are welcome. No experience necessary.
