Join us for a special program to honor and remember over 1.2 million American men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. At Miramar National Cemetery, there are over 30,000 veterans and their families interred. While on the hallowed grounds, attendees will be able to visit the Memorial Walkway, POW Liberation Memorial, and Veterans Tribute Tower and Carillon. Several local WWII D-Day Veterans will be in attendance. Speakers include Dr. Gregory A. Daddis, U.S. Army (Ret.), Director of the SDSU Center of War and Society, and Consul General of France Julie Duhaut-Bedos. Making Space, Taking Space is a public reading of work from San Diego Writers, Ink’s AAPI Writing Workshop, facilitated by playwright Thelma Virata de Castro. The reading, featuring multiple genres and perspectives, will take place at the Point Loma/Hervey Library on May 26, 2024, in commemoration of AAPI Heritage month. A panel discussion with the writers and workshop facilitator regarding their processes, themes, and challenges will follow the reading. The event will serve as a gathering place for artistic, cultural, historical, and literary groups and non-profits to network with the writers and share resources for future research and writing. This new local indie reading series continues with a new slate of writers and performers. In addition to poets and writers Amy Sara Carroll, Ana Carrete and Adam Strauss, the reading will feature Akari Komura, an interdisciplinary artist, writer and composer, who will perform with violinist Ilana Waniuk.
