  • Free show alert! This special series from the San Diego brings a one-hour, family-friendly concert to local neighborhoods, for free. This weekend's series involves three shows on Saturday, conducted by the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Stefano Sarzani. The program includes Beethoven's "Overture to Coriolan, Op. 62" which is mighty and dare-I-say quintessentially classical. It was written for Heinrich Joseph von Collin's 1804 play "Coriolan," about the Roman leader Gaius Marcius Coriolanus. (Shakespeare also wrote a play about him.) The Symphony will also perform Louise Farrenc's "Symphony No. 3 in G minor." Farrenc was the only woman to ever teach at the Paris Conservatory in the 19th century, and made a splash as a virtuoso pianist as well as composer and educator. Note: the performances are indoors, and the San Diego Symphony requires all guests to show proof of vaccination, even for children under 12. The program is intended for ages 5 and up. Advance registration is required. RSVP or find future programs here. Details: Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church in Casa de Oro, 4031 Avocado Blvd., La Mesa; and at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of San Diego, 321 Date St., downtown. Free. —Julia Dixon Evans, KPBS Related Links: San Diego Symphony on Instagram San Diego Symphony on Facebook
