  • Bakunawa Market is an ancestral and spiritual marketplace rooted in Filipino heritage and healing. Inspired by the Babaylan, the healers and spirit-keepers of pre-colonial Philippines, the market offers a sacred space to remember our roots, reconnect with ancestral wisdom, and restore spiritual balance. The free, two-day community event features 30+ makers, healers, and artists – from ceramists, jewelers, and visual artists to herbalists, tarot readers, energy workers, and culinary creators – whose work reflects ancestral wisdom, decolonial practices, and spiritual connection. The Bakla Collective will also be featured, showcasing Queer Filipinx creators and centering equity and representation within San Diego’s creative community. Enjoy live performances, a Sunday workshop lineup – including Intro to Mediumship, Zero-Waste Candle Making, and Yoga + Sound: Collective Healing – and Kamayan by Kujo Eats (Sunday, 5-7 p.m.). Kamayan, meaning "by hand" in Tagalog, is a traditional communal feast where guests share food with their hands, scooping rice and dishes on a table lined with banana leaves. Thoughtfully curated by elders, each dish celebrates the true flavors of our ancestors, with a special spread featuring grilled pompano, fried bangus, BBQ chicken leg quarters, beef kare kare, pork BBQ skewers, and garlic rice.   • The Greater San Diego Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Angela Yeung, presents a concert honoring the Saints and the faithful departed in anticipation of All Saints and All Souls Days. The program includes Boyce's "Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day," Charpentier's "Pour un reposoir," Borodin's "Au Couvent," Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin" and Pavane "pour une infante défunte." Soprano Emily Ortlieb will perform "Pie Jesu" by Lili Boulanger, and the aria “The Field of the Dead” from Prokofiev's film score for the historical drama, "Alexander Nevsky."   • The San Diego Italian Film Festival opens Oct. 1, offering a blend of Italian and Italian American films that explore the theme of courage through shorts, features and conversation.
  • The seasons are changing, and it’s a beautiful time of year to celebrate by creating whimsical fused glass art for your garden or windows! Your bright and cheerful sun catchers and garden sticks will make your garden, indoor potted plants, or windows sparkle! Instructor Suzanne Balestri will guide you in glass cutting techniques an design considerations to create your own artful creations to compliment your garden or to display in a sunny window. You will also receive two instructional videos a few days before the workshop so you’ll have a head start on what to expect. Students can make up to 3 pieces measuring approximately 1.5” x 11” each. All glass art will be kiln-fired after class and ready for pick up at the Craft Collective approximately one week after class. All materials are included, including 2 pre-class video instructions, and materials and firing for 3 glass pieces. Additional pieces can be made in class for $5 each (payable with cash in class).
