The exhibition "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" shares stories of how the construction of race has shaped laws, institutions, and daily life in San Diego and the broader multinational region. Presented in English and Spanish, the exhibition highlights key moments in this region’s complex history of race. Experienced through mixed media, artworks, and accounts from regional archives, the exhibition brings forward important stories and voices often left out of mainstream narratives. Created in collaboration with local artists, researchers, and community leaders, this experience highlights stories, past and present, of how communities have resisted oppression and worked for change. "Race: Power, Resistance & Change" is an invitation and a call to action. It is a space to reflect, connect personal experiences, and take part in ongoing conversations about racial justice and building a more equitable future together. Join us for a hands-on morning of printmaking, reflection, and creative exploration inspired by the exhibition "Eduardo Chillida: Convergence." Explore Chillida’s powerful use of line, shape, and form through guided prompts and conversation before creating your own linocut print. Drawing on personal memories, you’ll consider how abstract forms can hold meaning and emotion. Then, carve, ink, and press your design, transforming reflection into visual expression. Participants will also complete a brief artist statement to accompany their print, engaging with multiple facets of the artistic process. All materials provided. Join us for Without Words: Moving through the Holidays, guided by The Elizabeth Hospice Grief Counselor Maggie Miller on Saturday, Dec 6 from 1–2:30 p.m., at Expressive Arts @ 32nd & Thorn in North Park. During this compassionate gathering, we will honor grief and loss during the holiday season, and experience how creativity and gentle movement can be tools for healing. This workshop is free of charge, open to everyone, and can be taken on its own or as part of the full Without Words series on the first Saturday of every month. Join Museum educators for a special workshop inspired by the practice of sobremesa, cherished by artist Alfredo Castañeda. Sobremesa refers to the moments when a meal extends into lingering conversation, when guests talk, listen to music, and reflect on life and ideas. This workshop invites participants to gather in community, engage in both prompted and organic conversation, and take part in an art-making activity inspired by Castañeda’s work and practice. Sherri Goodman, who coined the term “threat multiplier” regarding climate change, will speak at SDSU in the Student Union Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 4:30 p.m. This event is presented by the International Securiy and Conflict Resolution (ISCOR) program at the College of Arts and Letters, through generous funding by donor and alumnus Edward Uechi (ISCOR '05).
