  • Songwriter Sanctuary is back Friday, April 25 with “in the round” performances by Mr. Lyrical Groove, Mandi, and Kaylee Daugherty. Songwriter Sanctuary is hosted by the legendary Jeff Berkley and Normal Heights United. (4650 Mansfield St. Suggested Donation $10. All ages. Doors 6:30 p.m., Music 7 p.m.). About the Artists Mandi is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and keys player drawn to soulful, genre-blending music. She thrives on collaboration—especially with fellow musicians and hip hop artists—and brings depth and energy to every project. Known for her ear for harmony, she enjoys creating and recording background vocals, and often supports others as a studio musician or music director. Offstage, she teaches middle school choir, music, and soon orchestra, helping young artists tap into their creativity. Kaylee Daugherty is a staple singer of the San Diego jazz scene as well as a singer-songwriter. She has had the privilege to play at some of Socal’s finest establishments, including Music Box, The Jazz Lounge, Dizzy’s, and the Westgate with San Diego’s best jazz musicians, including Irving Flores, Ed Kornhauser and Mikan Zlatkovich. Kaylee’s favorite part of performing is bringing joy to her audiences. Her music makes kids dance and gives older folk a sigh of nostalgia. Kaylee is personable and interactive with her audiences, and, by inviting them into her musical world, builds a sense of community within each venue. Kendrick Dial, artistically known as Mr. Lyrical Groove is a multidisciplinary artist, spoken word poet, and front man of the award-winning band The Lyrical Groove, known for blending soul, hip-hop, and thought-provoking lyricism. With experience as a Navy veteran, creative & executive coach and leadership trainer, he brings a unique blend of structure and soul to his work. His creative work fuses personal narrative with cultural commentary, using music, poetry, and performance as tools for healing and social change.
