Join Southern Caregiver Resource Center at our office for an afternoon of art and networking! We invite community members and affiliated organizations alike to the unveiling of “Portraits in Caregiving”, a series of photographs honoring the caregiving experience. This exhibit captures the essence of family and unconditional love through intimate and tender moments found in the routine of caregiving. Guests will have the opportunity to speak to the photographers as well as the featured caregivers. SCRC’s staff will also be present to give you a tour of our office space, share information about our vital support services for caregivers, and discuss professional networking and corporate partnership opportunities. This reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served throughout the event. We look forward to hosting you! Join us for a righteous evening of Disco and Ballroom! At this month's event, we explore the versatility of the modern Hustle. "Club Swing" is a variation on the traditional rhythm that will allow new dancers to enjoy this fast and fun classic with ease. Traditionally, Hustle is danced in a syncopated timing to Disco music. However, these days with a little tweak to the timing, we can use this energetic dance for a wide variety of popular music This is an all levels class, so beginners are welcome--Join us! This class is appropriate for beginners. After the class, we'll have open dancing in all your favorite styles- heavy on the Hustle, of course- so you can practice what you've learned. (If you're new to this, never fear... your Dj and MC, Jen, will announce with each song which dance styles are appropriate and when you can use your new moves.) Your ticket gives you one entry into our event raffle for 2 private dance lessons at our boutique lessons studio in Pacific Beach, with the instructor of your choice. **Heads up! More than craft classes, Third Sunday Craft will help you construct and sustain a writing practice. New focus topics for each session will challenge writers to explore and expand their craft. Generative writing prompts will encourage you to grow and learn in exciting new ways. Sharing your work within a safe, supportive community will help you discover and strengthen your voice. EC Gallery will share a compelling selection of artworks from The Art of Dr. Seuss Collection in the Gaslamp at 621 5th Avenue, San Diego on May 10 through June 13 for FREE. Visitors may explore and acquire works from Dr. Seuss’s best-known children’s books, as well as The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss, a mind-expanding collection based on decades of artwork, which Dr. Seuss created at night for his own personal pleasure. Perhaps the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection are Dr. Seuss’s three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculptures with names such as Carbonic Walrus, Two-Horned Drouberhannis, and Goo-Goo-Eyed Tasmanian Wolghast, to name a few. For over 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. His artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and yet, to this day, his Secret Art Collection is virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) created paintings and sculpture, which he secreted away at the Dr. Seuss Estate in La Jolla, CA. Each of these Estate-Authorized limited editions has been adapted and reproduced from Theodor Seuss Geisel’s original drawings, paintings, or sculptures. Additionally, each work bears a posthumously printed or engraved Dr. Seuss signature, identifying the work as an authorized limited edition commissioned by the Dr. Seuss Estate.
