This four-part documentary series is an inspiring coming-of-age story that follows teenagers from across America as they face off in the nation's premier civics competition. Culminating in a championship showdown in the nation’s capital, high school students with diverse personal and political backgrounds grapple with critical questions about democracy.
  • Lead instructor, Steffi Dotson, teaches this class that covers the properties of wood, machine safety and woodworking basics. Students will learn a mix of woodworking techniques, including hand tools and safe practice of machine operations. Depending on the specific project, joinery techniques, proper sanding and finishing are part of the curriculum. Each attendee will make their own project. Because safety is top priority, and each student works at their own speed, students are not always guaranteed to finish a project within the month-long class series. We encourage enrolling for multiple months to keep learning more skills. All materials are included. The projects in this class rotate, and we encourage students to repeat to continue learning and dive deeper into woodworking. Drop-ins are welcome! However, everyone entering the art show is expected to comply with all terms and conditions expected of our attendees. You’ll see numerous original drawings, paintings, sculptures, pieces of jewelry, and more “unusual” items, all created and displayed by professional and amateur artists. For your convenience, the Art Show is open one hour after the Exhibit Hall closes on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday to make it easier to bid on or pick up your art.   • There’s a new stand-up comedy showcase in town–UC San Diego’s Park & Market’s Comedy Night at the Guggenheim presented by Mark Christopher Lawrence. The second show in the series brings Def Comedy Jam All-Star Edwonda White to the Guggenheim Theatre on Friday, September 20, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. La Jolla Comedy Store regular Louie Centanni and San Diego comedian Bijan Mostafavi are also slated for sets, alongside a musical performance from San Diego Music Award winner Shawn Rohlf. Each of the Comedy Night at the Guggenheim shows features a collection of clean, family-friendly comedians curated by host Mark Christopher Lawrence. Lawrence is best known for his role as Big Mike on NBC’s Chuck, in which he was a series regular for four seasons. In addition to his acting work, Lawrence is a nationally touring stand-up comedian who has toured with comic legends like Sinbad, Jerry Seinfeld, and Rodney Dangerfield.
